PROCEDURE UPDATE!
In as early as January of 2008, those successfully completing the NJ Safe Boating Course will have s shorter wait time for the return of their permanent Certificate. Instead of months, as is currently the case, Certificates will be mailed within weeks!
In a letter dated October 18, 2007, the New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau advised Capt. Rick's Marine Services, LLC that they project their new internet based system - whereby course providers will be entering the requisite application information directly into the Marine Services Bureau's new database - will be fully operational by January 1, 2008 (barring unforeseen difficulties, no doubt).
Under the new system, we will still manually collect information from applicants on the paper form, and a copy of the form will still suffice as a temporary certification during the interim between successful completion of the course and the Bureau's issuance of the permanent certificate. The theory is that our direct electronic submission of the information will reduce their backlog, allowing them to focus on producing the durable and waterproof PVC certificates.
When we begin implementing the new system, we'll let you know right here. Until then, keep educating yourselves!
