Navigation:
Designed for the serious boater who wants to gain the skills necessary to navigate accurately and safely
using traditional instruments and tools. For example, if your calculator stops working, you can do the math with a pencil and paper; you learned those basics in
school. So what do you do if your GPS quits? Can you get back to your dock safely?
Offered are Basic [as either a 2 night/two-hour course or a one day intensive four-hour course] and Advanced Coastal Navigation [a six-hour course offered over a three-night period].
This advanced course is a must for the serious boater, even if you never leave the Bay. It fills the gap between the state mandated Boating Safety Course and the Coast Guard OUPV (6-pack) License. Upon completion, you will be equipped
to successfully take the Plotting/Navigation segment of the C.G. License test.
Covered here are:
- Understanding the Compass;
- Basic Chart Reading;
[No, it is NOT a map, it's a chart]
- Ded Reckoning and Plotting;
[That's not a typo...]
- Buoys and their Meaning;
- Time, Speed and Distance Calculation; and
- Current Set and Drift Determination;
[!$&%*@#! I'm not where I thought I was!]
- Basic Weather
